I’ll admit that seeking wealth motivates a great number of people. When great wealth is to be had, people will go to great lengths to obtain it. It’s called “entrepreneur”.
Conversely, endeavors of the mind, such as scholarship, are perhaps pursued at a more leisurely pace. Yet, our society benefits from those willing to expend great mental effort in science and other fields.
Occasionally, and for many reasons, two things will intersect: the zeal of the entrepreneur, but focused on endeavors of the mind. This can viewed as a form of entrepreneurship, but the reward is not wealth. It is something else.
Too often, we ignore this sort of passion, to our detriment I think.
